NEW HAVEN, INDIANA
CLASS OF 1957
50TH CLASS REUNION
Friday, September 21, 2007

It's all over except for all the great memories of a special week-end. Everyone kept asking where the past fifty years had gone. Classmates came from far away places such as Hawaii, Colorado, Oklahoma, New York, Florida, Virginia, Michigan, Ohio and various nearby local Indiana locations. Unfortunately not all of the living members of the class of 1957 were able (or chose) to attend. It was definitely their loss.
On a warm Friday evening, a large group of us gathered and rode on a wagon filled with straw bales in the Homecoming Parade. Officials roped off a special section at the football stadium where we sat as an honored group. We cheered for the old home team and were proud and delighted that our Bulldogs played a great game. New Haven was victorious over Columbia City High School.
On Saturday morning, September 22, Bob Avery, Jim Deitschel, Bill Fanning, Rae Hill, Bob Ladig and Doug Ort gathered to play nine holes of golf at Arlington Golf Course. Naturally all had a great score and lots of fun.
Saturday afternoon all the committee members and a few helpers gathered at Goeglein's to prepare the facility for the party. Very, very special thanks go to Linda and Ray Glaze for the many hours they put in to make the evening perfect.
A gala party on Saturday evening was enjoyed at the newly renovated Goeglein's. The Committee members planned well and the room was set up beautifully. Of course, gold and purple were the theme colors for the table linens. Balloons and gold and purple M & M's with 'NHHS 1957' stamped on them made each table so festive. Social hour was scheduled to begin at 6:30 but many anxious classmates arrived long before that. Gold & purple name tags on a gold cord, including 50 year old pictures of each classmate, were hung around necks. Many of us had to take a close look at the old picture to realize the name and face of the person standing before us! Most of us have added a pound or two (plus a wrinkle or two), but were recognizable at last. The hugs, flashing cameras, and visiting began. That continued throughout the evening - which turned out to be way too short. Booklets were given out to each classmate that gave interesting information about the last 50 years of those folks who gave us a snapshot view of their lives. Carol Garpow McNabb did a marvelous job with the typing for the booklet.
A special memorial was set up with pictures of our deceased classmates and an individual candle for each person burned throughout evening in their memory. They will never be forgotten.
